The Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (Global Platform) is the main forum at the global level for strategic advice, coordination, partnership development and the review of progress in the implementation of international instruments on disaster risk reduction.
The 2017 Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction will be held in Cancun, Mexico on 22-26 May. The Global Platform will mark the first opportunity for the international community to review global progress in the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, which was adopted in Japan in 2015. Global Platform outcomes will inform the High Level Political Forum (HLPF) of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Development of stronger synergies between the Sendai Framework, the SDGs and the Paris Agreement, will be a key issue for discussion during the Global Platform. The World Meteorological Organisation will also host the Multi-Hazard Early Warning Systems Conference on the 22 – 23th of May 2017.
