Gender Equality in UNFCCC Negotiations

The presentation outlined what the UNFCCC Gender Action Plan (GAP) aims to achieve, which includes supporting implementation of gender-related decisions and mandates in UNFCCC processes, advance women’s full, equal and meaningful participation; promote gender-responsive climate policy and mainstreaming of gender perspectives, with workshops to inform these goals planned in May 2018 and 2019. The GAP has focus on five priority areas which includes 1) capacity-building, knowledge sharing and communication, 2) gender balance, participation and women’s leadership, 3) coherence, 4) gender-responsive implementation and 5) monitoring and reporting. Ireland has a role to play at both national level in implementing our National Strategy for Women and Girls, at EU level to inform the EU position to the UNFCCC, and at international level in informing GAP responses.
